My Students

How can I get urban students more interested in math and science?

Our students attend a public urban high school in Oklahoma.

We have a diverse study body with about 30% Hispanic, 30% African American, 30% Caucasian, and 10% Others with a high percent qualifying for free lunch. What amazes me about our students is that many of them face other challenges outside of the classroom and yet they still manage to accomplish so much without the support we take for granted.

My Project

I am requesting the littlebits extended kit to use in my classroom to enrich and support my classroom instruction. The littlebits kit will allow my students to design, create, test, alter, and adjust their own creations while learning about electronic components and circuits. This will allow students to tap into their creativity and actually create something to perform a real task. My hope is to use this as a jumping off point to push STEM activities in my classroom.

Our students have little desire to be in the math and science classrooms as they have had little to no success for many years before coming to the high school level.

Our school needs activities and materials to get students excited about learning math and science.
