Literary Review

My students need a Barnes and Noble Nook with cover to encourage them to continue reading.

My Students

My students have a renewed interest in reading. However, our classroom library lacks a sufficient number of chapter books, literary classics, and technology.

My students attend an urban, low-income school nestled within a close community.

Unfortunately they have limited access to reading materials within their homes and even less access to technology. When you combine these two factors, most of the students at our school do not view reading as a pleasurable activity.

My Project

Because of a district-wide mandated activity, I found a way to capture my students' interest and get them to read and read for sustained periods of time. I began reading to them from my personal e-reader and they were completely enthralled. Therefore, I would like for my classroom library to include a Nook Color figurative with a protective covering. I feel that the Nook will keep the children interested in reading simply because of the technology aspect of it. I can easily and quickly access books for them to read. The skills they will learn are endless; improved comprehension and vocabulary, increased fluency, and literary techniques such as figurative language.

Your donation to this project will allow my students to continue to grow through the pleasure of reading.

As we have our book discussions, my students are often heard using the language from the stories as well as referring back to specific accounts of the book to justify their answers. Your donation to our project will allow such book discussions to continue.
