This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Help us use our multiple talents. For this project, art and literacy work hand in hand to create beautiful literary works. Students of all abilities will feel the satisfaction of being an author.

My second grade students are curious about the world and how it works.

They may not have a lot of money, but they have rich experiences as first generation Americans. We are part of a small elementary school with a high population of children of English Language Learning parents. We strive to give them the best possible education while providing a safe, nurturing, learning environment.

My Project

The high quality watercolors, paper and brushes that I requested for this project will be used to help students of all abilities create literary works based on the principles of "Power of Pictures" by Beth Olshansky. For this project, students study quality picture books and then create watercolor pictures based on a theme. From the pictures, students write the words to create breathtakingly beautiful books.

At the heart of her [Beth Olshanksy] approach is the Artists/Writers Workshop. Through study of quality picture books and hands-on art experiences, students learn to visualize, paint pictures with words, and ultimately create their own extraordinary artistic and literary work."
