it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach a first and second grade multi-age class at Mueller Charter School.
Mueller Charter School is located in Chula Vista which is part of San Diego County. Roughly 75% of students at our school are eligible for free or reduced lunch and about 60% are English language learners.
I teach a multi-age class meaning that half of my students are first graders and half are second. If I had to describe my class I would say they are thoughtful, motivated and full of personality. Each day they come to school eager to learn, daring to take chances, and ready to express their creativity. They are all working relentlessly to learn to read as well as comprehend what they are reading. Sixteen of my twenty-one students are not only learning how to read, but are also learning English as their second language. Their persistence, positivity, and work ethics have led them to many successes this year and I am beyond proud to call them my kiddos!
My Project
Since I teach a multi-age classroom my students are reading at a wide range of abilities. Some students are struggling to read kindergarten level text and others are reading at a third grade level text. Due to this, guided reading and reading instruction to small groups of students with similar learning needs is ESSENTIAL to my students' success. Everyday for one hour my students rotate through independent literacy centers while I work with 3-5 students at a time providing them instruction specifically designed for their reading level and academic needs. It is important that all students are engaged during this time, not just the students working with me. TAG books will allow the students who are not working with me, to read on their own when they are in the Reading Center. TAG books will help students sound out and read words which they otherwise would have to skip or guess.
This project is so important because my students are SO important!
