My Students

Visual images inundate the lives of our youth. Why not help them develop their auditory skills by engaging them in the sounds and voices of history?

Nestled in the Silicon Valley, my students are high school U.S.

History students, who, in their free time, are keen consumers of technology. They attend a public high school with a very diverse student population. The majority of my students are on federal free or reduced-pay lunch programs.

My Project

My students need three Digital Audio Club Listening Centers and 20 cord splitters to be able to hear the speeches, sounds, and songs of history- and to work on interactive websites with partners- to better understand events. With these listening centers, my students will be able to hear those crucial moments in U.S. history- from the jazz of the Harlem Renaissance to those well-known spoken words of "a date which will live in infamy", thereby inspiring generations of History Channel addicts and developing the listening skills of all the students in my course.

My students are comfortable with the reality that not all the see or read is true, but not necessarily that they also need to question what they hear and to reflect on how what they hear impacts them.

Help me teach students listening skills, help me connect them to history, and assist me as I prepare them to be our next generation of citizens.
