Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are all working towards becoming proficient speakers, readers, and writers in English. They need many resources but are often overlooked in terms of funding. These listening resources will enable my students to increase their English language proficiency and become stronger learners.

My students are 100% Spanish-speaking from a variety of countries including Ecuador, Mexico, and El Salvador.

In addition, a large number of students spend time in Puerto Rico. My school is one of the poorest in my district, with nearly 100% of students qualifying for free or reduced lunch.

My Project

My students need a library of read-alongs, microphones, a CD player, and a junction box for a way to listen to themselves reading. This will enable them to "hear" errors in fluency and accuracy. The students will use the voice recording microphone to read aloud, record and listen to themselves in an effort to improve fluency and accuracy. The read-along library will give them an opportunity to listen to "appropriate" speech first before reading to themselves.

My students are consistently overlooked in terms of funding.

The resources I have are dated and familiar. Donating to our cause will give them an opportunity to see that they are valued, and people "out there" want to provide them with cool new tools for learning!
