My Students

You know the excitement you feel when you share a good book with a friend? Help all my students achieve this exciting moment in their reading by helping us get a listening center!

My students are second and third graders from the inner city.

They have a wide range of reading abilities and interests. Overall they are a happy, goofy group who has great concern for each other and our school community. Our school is a small charter school in the heart of a large Midwestern city that strives to incorporate child development and best practices into all of our teaching. We do our best to help our students learn through doing, and through a mixture of student- directed inquiry and teacher facilitated lessons.

My Project

My students need a listening center with a variety of software so that they can read together, promoting comprehension, fluency and confidence. Imagine students sitting together to listen to and discuss a story together. A listening center will help a group of our students listen to and read along with a story together while I am able to meet with another group of students to help them discuss and comprehended what they have been reading. A listening center will help double the number of kids who get small group teacher time each week, as students will be able to meet independently at the listening station to experience a book, instead of needing a teacher to keep them focused on their story.

This project means a lot to me and my students.

Reading is a skill my students will use for the rest of their lives. This project helps promote a love of reading while also allowing me to maximize the learning time of my students. Thanks for your help!
