My Students

Do you remember your teacher or librarian reading a story to you? Do you remember getting so wrapped up in the story these characters became real? So many of my students look forward to hearing the end of a story, but sadly, they can't read the story for themselves.

My second graders are book lovers.

They enjoy looking at the pictures and reading the story. I have a wide range of reading abilities in my classroom. I have some students reading on a fourth grade level while others are still struggling to blend sounds. Yet, all of them know how important reading is to their success. My students attend a school that has 63% of the population on free and reduced lunch. Most of my students don't have many books at home, so they love reading the books in my classroom. My students also enjoy the interactive reading groups they visit each day. My students enjoy visiting the listening center, but we have quickly gone through my collection of books on CD. My students would really love to have new stories to hear at the listening center. By having these new stories, my students could be amazed by new stories and all of my students' reading scores could be improved.

My Project

Students benefit from listening to fluent readers reading a book. They learn new vocabulary and learn how to properly stop at the end of a sentence. By hearing a fluent reader, students also learn how to add tone and inflection to their reading. By providing these audio books to my students, my students' oral reading fluency scores should improve. These new stories could be the key to getting my struggling readers over the hurdle they are currently facing.

I have a handful of students who are getting frustrated with their poor reading.

They want to read more fluently so their reading scores can improve. By having these books, my struggling readers will have even more tools to help them achieve their reading goals.
