My Students

"To young to read!" My students are to young to read independently. Adding the books with Cd's and a CD player to our literacy station will give my students the ability to listen to stories independently. My classroom is the first time that my students have been involved in a school setting.

My students belong to a low income environment, but in their environment they are taught how to survive.

A listening station will give my students the world of imagination and the love of story telling. I will use this station for independent exploring the literacy world. Our School is a Title I school which indicates that we have a low income population. I have a predominately minority based population with 35 students that will benefit from this station. A large part of our curriculum is revolved around 38% of our day being geared to student initiated activities. Students will have ample opportunity to be involved with the world of literacy independently.

My Project

The literacy supplies and Cd players are intended for the use of making my students aware and becoming familiar with print. This station will give my students the opportunity to explore worlds with vivid imagination. This station is also used to allow my students to us independent skills to manipulate the cd player. This station will also give them the opportunity to independently listen to a story of their choice. They will also build their skills of retelling and identifying the story elements. My goal is to have my students able to communicate the story elements to a partner and build retelling strategies to become fluent readers as they are taking steps in becoming pre-readers.

My students need the books and cads with cd players to use in stations.

One cd player will be used in the literacy station for independent story listening and sharing. The other cd player will be used for music station and whole group music time. I am my students' teacher and enrichment teacher as well. I am the one who gives them the opportunity to listen and enjoy the world of music. Our cd player has broken and does not read current Cd's that I have collect through the years. THEY love MUSIC!
