Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach Special Needs students ranging in age from 5 to 12 - Kindergarten to 5th grade. Our school is in a high poverty area and we are a Title I school. The students that I see learn differently from other students. Often, the visual and auditory approach opens their eyes quicker. Many of them have several disabilities the preclude them from a regular learning environment.

My students face many obstacles - autism, dyslexia, ADHD, speech disorders, visual disorders, language disorders. But they need so much to learn and get along in this world. So many of them seem to have just accepted the "I can't do that!" philosophy and I want to change that and show them they can become successful by learning to read and comprehend what they read.

My listening center needs some books and Cd's with those books to learn to read and recognize words. I need the the Classic Children's Stories set to get them hooked. I also need a way of teaching them sounds with a Phonemic Awareness Listening Set of beginning, ending, and rhyming sounds to help them begin to read. I want to be the one who helps them "turn on that light bulb" and help make them successful.

You can make it possible for these low level learners to become high level learners. You can make it possible to turn those sad "I Can't!" into joyous "I Can!" and build up some great self esteem. These children can learn to read and that is my goal. Please help me help them.
