Lights...Camera...Action...Scientists At Play!

My students need 3 digital cameras and 3 SD cards in order to archive, by homeroom, the wide realm of scientific endeavors in which they will experience this school year.

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

You never know where science may take you next! That is why we plan to hire a few exceptional photojournalists for each of our homerooms. The mission for each of these photojournalists involves archiving the wonderful scientific experiences that present themselves throughout the school year!

I teach eighth grade Physical Science in a school located in historical East Los Angeles.

Over 93 percent of our students are eligible for free lunch and breakfast, meals which are provided to our school by a progressive organization called Revolution Foods. Although we serve a high-needs community, our current 877 API score index shows that we are one of the top performing middle schools in all of LA. Using our “team beats individual” positive mindset and college bound culture developed as a campus “team and family,” our main goal is aimed at mobilizing our students to and through top high schools, colleges, and universities. Since the standards of California Physical Science (Physics, Chemistry, and Astronomy) involve foundations centered on abstract concepts, my instruction is heavily driven by advanced technology and visually stimulating projects and presentations.

My Project

The main purpose of these three cameras involves providing to three deserving students an opportunity to creatively archive their and their peers' scientific experiences in fundamental Astronomy, Chemistry, and Physics. With an array of demonstrations and labs daily and science video/editing projects throughout the curriculum, these photojournalists will have an incredible amount of digital material to archive and interpret. In addition, our school is committed to providing all deserving students the opportunity to attend end of year field trips. As we head to Washington, DC for our end of year trip, we will be equipped with enough digital camera power to supply various angles to our experiences trekking through George Washington University, becoming news reporters in the Newseum, and "bikin' n rollin'" our way through a professional cycling tour of the nation's capital. At the end, the students will have embarked on the first stage towards becoming a real-life documentarian!

This project and the resources obtained will empower our students to enhance their outlook on physical science and positively commit to evaluating and re-evaluating the real-world via digital images and high technology.

This will eventually lead them to become world-class, college-bound, astro-space chemists of the future! They will never forget the support as the images that they carry away with them travel to and through their future in education.
