Students are like sponges; they soak up everything! Help our classroom receive one of the most important tools for learning: visuals!
I work with an amazing group of 23 first grade students.
I find it rare to see so many good people in the same room, but that's exactly what they are; honest to goodness, kind souls. While they are all very special to me, I still have my fair share of problem-solving to do. They vary significantly in academic success, posing a challenge when it comes to teaching beyond their current knowledge. I'm confident with the right tools, they will all reach their full potential!
My Project
First grade students have many commonalities and differences. One significant commonality is that they are all very visual learners. I find that lessons where students can see exactly what is expected of them, make for a smoother learning process. Therefore, I'm always searching for tools to assist this need. We have a huge void in our classroom by not having a document camera. It's difficult for little ones to gather around and see exactly what I'm modeling, especially if it's not a project that's large in size. A document camera would eliminate these challenges, and allow students to visualize exactly what they need to get done.
First grade is also very literature based. We are constantly talking about books, reading, and writing. Being able to project a book for the whole class to see would improve student reading immensely. I know the benefit of being able to read along with a story. Words and images would come to life! A document camera would serve as a perfect aid.
Seeing is believing.
If my students can see on a large screen, I know they'll grasp the objectives of the lesson much better. I am confident that a document camera will be a vital tool in our classroom. These children are our future; investing in them is a no-brainer!
