Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Sitting in a desk for 8 hours a day is miserable, even for adults. I try to create a learning environment where my students can move around during the day. We learn by using our hands, not just pencils and paper and my kids love it.
I have 18 students and we are part of a title 1 school.
At our school every student gets free breakfast and lunch due to the high poverty in our area. Not all of my students come from good, loving homes. While they are with me each day my goal is to provide a safe and loving environment where they can grow. I want to make school and learning fun for them.
My Project
I want a light table for so many reasons. We can use it for art by doing sand art, using shapes to create pictures. We can use it for math by using the color chips to create addition and subtraction problems, and using tangram shapes. We can use it in science with our color paddles to create new colors, and so many other fun activities to get us up and moving.
This would be an amazing center for my students to learn and to play at.
They could use this light table all throughout the day for various subjects. The main thing is they could get up and move to learn. My students respond so much better to visual and hands-on learning and these materials would provide that for us.
