Life Moves...One Desk at a Time

My students need to maximize their learning through the use of 8 stand up desks.

My Students

My first students arrive as early as 7:15 am. They are ready to move. They hit the playground running. The bell rings at 8:25 am, and they file into the classroom and prepare for SSR (silent sustained reading). The students however, refer to it as "sit down, shut-up,and read".

5th graders are extremely active.

The concept of sitting down is a challenge. They want to learn and follow directions, but they also want to move. LIFE MOVES...EVEN IN THE CLASSROOM. Stand Up Kids is fighting for children's health one desk at a time.

My Project

Generous donations will allow our classroom to be the first in the school to benefit from the positive impact from standing up for their learning and maximizing their educational experience. Stand up desks will allow students to make minor physical movements to keep them focused and engaged. The desks are easily movable which will allow for dynamic classroom configurations.

This project was proposed by Carpe Diem CrossFit (our local CrossFit affiliate) as a way to integrate health and wellness into the school.

This is an instant way that we can do that. Not to mention the benefits that come with the integration of stand up desks. Kids are sedentary for 85% of their waking hours, sometimes not because of their choosing. Kids are much more engaged in a movement rich environment, "Physical movement is cognitive candy."
