This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My bilingual classroom is in need of an update. Everyday my students come in eager to learn. They take part of a reading competition that requires them to build their reading stamina. In order for them to do so, I would like to create an environment which encourages them to love reading.

Eager, enthusiastic, loving, and in need.

My students are all bilingual Spanish speakers that come from very low income families. They love being in the classroom and beg to stay even when they are supposed to be dismissed to fun things, like recess, or gym. The classroom is a very calm homelike environment they just seem to enjoy being a part of and this is why I want to continue to improve it and make spaces they enjoy, which also motivated them to continue learning.

My Project

The students will use the book baskets to organize their library books. They will use the cushions as comfortable places where they can grab a book to read. This will create a comfortable, organized library that will encourage them to want to read. I want to be want to use the library as a place to relax and enjoy a book, as opposed to a unused section in the classroom.

Reading is such an essential part of education.

The library should be a very important part of the classroom environment. Children should have a place that will encourage them to want to be there and learn. I want to create a culture in which reading plays an important role and placing a focus on the library will help in obtaining this goal.
