Kindergarten is much more than learning ABCs. During the kindergarten year, students are reading books. These books are leveled and need to be organized for students to independently access their level.
My kindergarten students are five and six years old who love learning to read.
Our school is located in a small rural town with high poverty. My class has several students that are English Language Learners. All my students learn how to choose a good fit book based on their independent reading level.
My Project
The leveled reader cart will allow the library books to be displayed at the students' eye level. The cart provides an organization system that kindergarten students can use to choose good fit books without direct adult supervision. The cart also provides a solution for returning books to their proper place by assigning this task to a student instead of a teacher. Each book will have a label that corresponds to the correct bin for easy returns. This teaches each student to be responsible for our books used in the classroom.
Good fit books are essential to helping readers develop into stronger readers.
This cart will provide the necessary organization for my kindergarten students to access the good fit books the need to become a better reader.
