My Students

"The more you read, the more things you know. The more you learn, the more places you'll go." -Dr. Seuss. Help my students go more places at their own level and pace!

When I begin my first year of teaching in August, I will be entering a classroom full of 22+ first graders.

My students will be entering the classroom at all different reading and learning levels. I will be implementing a guided reading program in my classroom so that each student is met at their level and as they are ready. My students come from a low income area and often spend the first few weeks of school refreshing the fundamentals of books, such as how to hold a book and reading left to right. I am excited to take them from this early reader level to reading independently at their individualized level.

My Project

Students will be assessed within the first few weeks of school to determine their level of reading. Students will then use their reading level to select books from the leveled library to place in their personal literacy book tubs. The students' leveled books will be used during readers workshop for read to self, read to a partner, word work or writing about reading. Students will be assessed to determine their reading level throughout the year. My students will also use these books to practice and develop their reading skills to reach new goals. New books and a wide variety will keep students reading throughout the year!

This project is essential to my classroom, because I know that reading is a fundamental skill.

It is important for students to read and understand. Reading is a skill that will effect this group of learners for the rest of their lives no matter what path they take. By having a leveled library, my students will have the opportunity to read books that they are interested in and help me to reach a range of learners.
