What is mythology without sculptures? Every year our students study mythology, but are unable to create their own sculptures.
Our students are wonderful artists.
They are creative and willing to do anything. Our school is also very collaborative. In the past years we have found funds to bring our students up to the high school to create sculptures with high school students. This year they will be unable to do this due to no money available for the materials. We would love to offer this opportunity to our students.
My Project
During our mythology unit we would like to have our students study sculptures and art from Greece and Rome. After doing this we would like to invite high school art students into our rooms to teach about how to sculpt clay. After their sculptures are built we will create stories to bring our sculptures to life. Lastly we would love to invite our students' families into our classroom for an art show, where our students will present their sculptures to their families. This project will combine social studies, art, and language arts. Our students will also work on their presentation skills.
Art was hard for me when I was in Elementary school not because of the passion, but because I wasn't great at drawing.
I know that there are lots of different types of art and I would love for our students to be able to experience more of them.
