Let's Master Fractions!

My students need 6 fraction cubes to help them better learn one of the trickier concepts in math!

My Students

Do you remember when you first learned about fractions? Fractions can be one of the most difficult areas in mathematics for elementary-level students.

I work at a high-poverty school that places a great deal of focus on students developing a strong understanding of mathematics.

Each year my students rise to the challenge and dedicate themselves to mastering their multiplication and division, but they inevitably have difficulty when it comes to learning fractions.

My Project

Fractions can be difficult for students! Learning fractions involves applying one's knowledge of multiplication and division, learning new vocabulary like "numerator" and "denominator", and wrapping one's mind around the fact that a third is somehow larger than a fourth! This is why I am requesting these fraction cubes. Fraction cubes offer students a tool to learn about fractions by using their eyes and their hands. Students will be able to look at the cubes to visually understand how an eighth compares to a tenth, and they can combine cubes to find out whether or not, say, a fourth plus an eighth is greater than a third!

My students will be dealing with fractions throughout their school careers.

By having access to these fraction cubes, my students will have one more resource available to them to help ensure that they not only succeed in third grade, but that they have the knowledge necessary to continue to succeed in math for years to come.
