My Students

Have you seen the PBS program Sid the Science Kid? Do you remember when you had fifty million questions to ask about how things work and why things happen? My students love this program and want to learn about science just as Sid and his friends do.

My students are very eager to learn about things and have millions of questions like why do bananas have brown spots, what makes it rain, and why is hot one day and cold the next.

Their favorite program to watch is Sid the Science Kid. In this program, a teacher introduces her class to all sorts of science questions, activities and experiments. My students are always asking me if they can be science kids too.

My Project

I have recently acquired the Sid the Science Kid video series and am currently trying to create lesson plans to correlate with each of the videos. Because my parish does not purchase a science curriculum for our Kindergarten students, I am limited on ideas for activities, experiments, and materials to carry out the lessons as I would like to. I am requesting two kits from Lakeshore Learning. One will supply ideas/activities in Earth, Life, and Physical Science and the other will supply us with a class pack center filled with over 90 hands-on science tools—from magnets and magnifiers to thermometers and mirrors! I want to get those little brains thinking and processing and hands working to answer those questions about how and why things work.

So much emphasis is being placed on Reading and Language in the schools right now.

In many cases, Science and Math are being put on the back burner. I want to keep their passion for Science alive while I teach them to love learning to read.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
