Leaving No Child Behind

My students need math and reading games to make our review for their state tests in May more meaningful to them.

My Students

Do you remember how you used to cram for a test, be bored out of your mind and then forget most of the information after you took the test? My students are in their first year of state standardized tests and I want to tap into their love for games to provide a meaningful review that will last.

My students are a wonderful group of third graders that are very diverse in learning styles and where they are in their learning.

We are blessed to be an inclusive classroom that allows us to share our learning with students with special needs. Our school is in a rural area that has been hit hard by the economy so many of our students are on Free or Reduced Lunch.

My Project

In 3rd grade, students in NC begin taking the state standardized tests. Every year, it is a challenge to review with the students because they have "spring fever" and it's so much information to review. I have asked for groups of games for both reading and math that will give the students great review opportunities. These games can be played in groups or individually. This will allow for whole class review and will allow for me to pull students in small groups or individually while the other students review with the games. They cover many of the objectives that the students will be asked to recall in May.

The students NEVER think they're learning while they're having fun!

These games will provide fun, meaningful review for my 3rd graders which will in turn make a lasting impression on their young minds.
