Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
You know what it feels like to have to care for another living thing? It changes the way you think and allows you to appreciate things more. I want students to be able to learn this feeling and enjoy an organism that they may have never seen.
My students come from a city with lots of cement, roads, and tall buildings.
Greenery is rare and animals = pigeons. We have a nice school that gives the students chances to experience things that they may never experience growing up in a city. The students themselves are great. They are eager to learn and I want to teach them responsibility and a love for nature.
My Project
My students need a Lizard Lair Kit, three living Anoles and food crickets, lamp and cricket food to learn about and care for living organisms instead of reading about them in a book. These lizards are creatures they will never see in the city. The class pet activity will allow students to do observations in science on animal behavior, life cycles, and the food chain. I am asking for anoles because they are great first pets and it is something that the students have not seen in the area we live in. I also have asked for tools to house the lizards and crickets for food. With these crickets the students will be able to see the food chain in action. It will also provide a way for the students to learn how to take care of a pet. So many things can be taught using an animal and I want the students to experience these first-hand ,not reading them in a book. I want to make it real and fun for the students.
The living world around us is being demolished because of human interaction.
For my students, I want to cultivate a love for animals and their well-being. I feel that this is a great way to make this a reality.
