Learning Through Literature

My students need several literature books to help them learn in all subject areas including Writing, Science, Social Studies, and Math.

My Students

Help us learn! We love reading children's books in our class. They even help us in subjects other than Reading! We are asking for more literature books to read throughout the day.

Our class is full of 22 2nd graders who are full of energy and excitement.

Our school offers a very unique and diverse group of kids. Some of our students are not privileged enough to even own their own books at home. It is my goal to provide materials at school that they might not otherwise be able to use.

My Project

I am asking for 21 different titles of children's literature. I plan to use these books to enrich our curriculum. There are several authors I chose specifically to use as models during our Writer's Workshop time. Others have great lessons to use during Science. My students can learn so much just from listening to and reading great authors.

I feel it is so important to connect to my students.

I think one way of doing this is choosing books to read that can relate to their lives personally. If a lesson is personally relevant, they are much more likely to learn and remember that lesson.
