My students need composition books, rhyming dictionaries, construction paper and other art supplies to create posters, games, writing assignments, and other projects.
My students love creating hands-on projects that spark their creativity. Many students come to school without any supplies, so it is difficult to plan activities that allow them to create. We will use the poster board, colored pencils, and game pieces to create poetry, posters, and game boards.
My students are sixth graders in a large metropolitan school district.
We have many students who receive free or reduced-price lunch, and some who are homeless. My classroom includes students with special needs as well as talented and gifted students. We have students from all over the world. Many of my sixth graders are English language learners. My classroom is culturally and economically diverse.
My Project
My students will use these materials throughout the year for many projects in reading, language arts, and social studies. They will be used to create interactive notebooks, posters, story cubes, Egyptian pyramids, coat of arms, biographies, poetry, children's books, game boards, and much more. They will learn about ancient civilizations in social studies, various book genres in reading class, and how to become better and more creative writers in language arts. The projects do not require a large amount of reading, which is something many of my students struggle with. My students are able to create amazing poetry with the use of rhyming dictionaries.
Most of my students learn best when engaged in hands-on projects.Without these supplies, many of the projects we normally do will not be possible due to the cost.
Students will learn how to work cooperatively in groups while creating these projects. The materials will also allow students to create posters and projects to share with the class and to be proudly displayed in our school hallways. These projects can be completed by all students regardless of their abilities or disabilities.
