This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Remember how much fun it was when your teachers let you have independent time to develop skills? Sometimes you did it alone, sometimes you did it with a partner, but no matter what, it was wonderful when you were allowed to be your own boss and discover on your own.

I teach 20 wonderful 2nd grade bilingual students in a high-poverty school.

They are sweet kids, eager to learn, and absolutely loving becoming independent readers during their Daily 5 literacy block. They enjoy being their "own bosses" and taking an active role in their own learning.

My Project

My classroom needs additional materials for Word Work and Reading. We currently spend a lot of time cutting and pasting resources I find online and we're looking for ready-made tools that will help us extend our learning, especially in phonics, since we are learning a new language (English!). The phonics and fluency materials we have chosen will help us work on our own and practice new skills to further develop our fluency, accuracy, and vocabulary!
