Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Many of my students are English Language Learners that need items that they can manipulate and explore in order to learn. Our new reading program does not provide these kinds of items. It is for this reason that I request themed literature and activity centers that correlate to our reading program.

For many of my kindergarten students the first time they speak English is in school.

Learning academic English is difficult for young children but through the use of realia, music, and themed books my students have excelled. However, with our new reading program, we lack the resources that support their English language development. Our school is located in an impoverished neighborhood and the necessary life experiences are not always available to my students that would support their learning. For example, many of my students have never been to the beach, even though we live 30 miles from the ocean. It is in school that we must create experiences and build English vocabulary through activities and items that we bring in. The activity centers and themed boxes that I requested will give the students the opportunity to explore and build English vocabulary so that they will be able to connect to the subject content.

My Project

My students need theme boxes, activity centers, and themed books that correlate to topics in our new reading program to promote greater learning and exploration. With your generosity, I will be able to help my students build their comprehension of subject matter and develop their English vocabulary. These items that I requested will be used on a daily basis for the students to practice certain skills that we have learned. They will also be used to explore specific topics that we are studying. The students will be able to manipulate the realia, look through books and listen to music that correlates and supports our reading program. With your donations, my students will not only learn English but also be able to make important connections to academic content.

This project is important because it provides supplies that can be used year after year to build bridges in learning for many students.

My students will have the tools they need to become life time learners and fluent English speakers.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
