Learning About Diabetes, Part 2

My students need a Diabetes flip chart and a Diabetes Mellitus teaching kit for our Nutrition unit.

My Students

The great thing about Health class is that all students can be successful! Because there are no standardized tests in Health, I have the flexibility to be creative in my teaching. This allows students who traditionally earn poor grades to find success in my classroom - sometimes for the first time!

We are a Title I school as well as a California Distinguished School and a Schools To Watch Model Middle School.

My students are used to working hard and rising to the challenges they face! They enjoy learning and demonstrating their knowledge in unconventional ways, and they really shine when they have access to a variety of resources. The success they achieve in meeting my high standards motivates them to work even harder, then they achieve even more success. It's a great cycle!

My Project

The models and displays that I am requesting will help my students learn the causes, risks, and consequences of Diabetes. The Diabetes Flip Chart explains the different types of Diabetes and how they can be treated. The Diabetes Mellitus Teaching Kit shows how Diabetes affects the kidney, artery, nerve, and eye. Together, these resources will help my students gain a solid understanding of Diabetes and will create an integral part of our Nutrition curriculum!

It is very difficult to find engaging materials about Diabetes and nutrition!

These models and displays will help my students learn the causes and consequences of Diabetes. Furthermore, my students will learn the importance of a healthy diet in helping to prevent Type II Diabetes. Learning about healthy nutrition practices is a big priority for my students. The more resources we can use, the better!
