This year, my seventh grade team of students is an extremely good group. They are intelligent, driven and eager to learn. They really seem to enjoy learning about the different subjects here at school. Since the beginning of the year, we have emphasized the importance of reading.
In addition to reading all that we can get our hands on, these kids contribute to a YA Lit blog that is read by teachers and students around the world.
We talk about books, share books and follow what others are reading. Our mission is to have kids love reading because once they do, they will be lifelong readers.
My Project
The idea is to use Kindles and Kindle books to inspire kids to read more. Using this technology, we can purchase a Kindle book and install it on several devices at once, stretching the budget and acquiring more books for the kids to read. There are mountains of research to support the fact that reading is the most important skill for learning. Encouraging a love of reading is my foremost goal. The students are beginning to read more and more so this project is crucial to sustain the momentum that we have built so far this year.
Donations to this project will build on a culture of reading that we have been building in the early stages of this school year.
Kids are motivated by the Kindles to read even more than they might otherwise. We build on that motivation to get more kids reading more books.
