This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
As new stars are added to the reading chart each day, the race continues to be the top reader in the 3rd grade class and the heat is on!
I work with 56 high-energy, bright, creative and enthusiastic 3rd graders who show genuine excitement and passion for reading and learning.
Eager to grow and succeed, my scholars come to class each day ready to jump into a new story or find a quiet place where they can find out what comes next in their novel. I have created an encouraging classroom where my students feel safe to take risks and where they can find joy in their work and successes. Though many of my students may struggle to read, their determination and resilience keeps them going and moving forward. Their unwavering dedication and desire motivate me each day to find new ways to spark a joy and lust for reading. After middle of the year testing, it was revealed that scholars made extreme and exciting progress in their reading levels from the beginning of the year. After celebrating in their success, it is time to keep the momentum going.
My Project
In order to continue the forward momentum, scholars need to continue to find enjoyment in reading, particularly as the work and books become more challenging. Reading provides my scholars with an opportunity to leave the classroom and travel on an exciting journey or adventure, to take a walk in someone else's shoes, or to learn new facts about the world. The new books will provide scholars with high-level and high-interest books that will spark their interest and passion for reading. I want my students to leave class with a love for books and reading.
Additionally, as they are surrounded by technology in all aspects of their lives, I want them to use technology in class to further their learning and excitement for school. The iPads will be used to read books online, listen to books on tape, and to access computer programs that support their reading skills and strategies. When you're 8, anything on the computer is just more fun
Reading interesting and inspiring stories is an experience I do not want my scholars to miss out on.
Your donation would provide my students with resources that will have a lasting impact on their lives, creating a joy for learning that they will take with them past the 3rd grade. Reading is a privilege that we take for granted all the time. Imagine what life would be like without books, words, or the ability to read. Please help my students and invest in their futures as readers.
