About My Students
My 8th graders are AMAZING! They are interested in learning and want to do it in a fun, hands-on, and real world applicable way.
My students really like Project Based Learning (PBL) and were excited about creating a class newspaper as one of their projects. When they were finished, they wanted to know if they could create a school newspaper that comes out monthly. I told them that it was a great idea; however, they would have to work really hard and one person would have to be in charge of the publishing. Many are interested in that position and want to work collaboratively using Pages on Macbook to crate a more professional looking paper.
Students will develop many skills that will help them with their future-college and career. The main skill that they will develop will be working collaboratively with one another. During this time, they will have to delegate, adhere to deadlines, and produce quality work. Once finished with the writing aspect, students will have to publish their work by using Pages and then uploading to the school website.
In Their Own Words
The goal we are trying to accomplish is to create a monthly school newspaper that keeps the students, parents, and community informed to the happenings at our school. It will bring a spotlight to our school and showcase our work.
Our teacher has already told us that this is going to be an after school club where we work together (with her assistance, but we will lead). We will elect officers that will be in charge of sections of the paper, editing, and publishing.
This project is important to our school community because it showcases our work, student life, and keeps everyone informed. It will be something that we developed; therefore, we (and our peers) will want to read it.
