My Students

What you don't know can hurt you and there are too many things that my students don't know about getting into college.

Inner city students face more obstacles than most when it comes to just graduating from high school, let alone getting into choice and select colleges.

Our school has a free and reduced lunch rate of 84 percent and according to research, that doesn't speak well for what some experts predict for students who come from generational poverty. However, at our school we are focusing on changing that. We offer ACT prep, Study Skills, College Summit and AVID. We believe that our inner city students are going to college and we believe we can get them there. As I start my second semester with my study skills class, I want my students to be not just dreaming of a better life through higher education, but taking steps to make it happen.

My Project

I am asking for college admission books and essay writing guides to help my students prepare to select their colleges, find out how to apply and what steps they need to take to make themselves the students that will be selected for these schools. These books will help us create college applications and personal essays that will represent the many wonderful students I have in my room. Students who deserve to dream big and accomplish even more. These books can provide answers to how to successfully showcase a students triumphs and strengths to help them get into the colleges of their choice.

So many other seniors have family members who attended select colleges or have family friend who can provide references for them.

Students who have had parents attend college often know the steps to be accepted into the colleges of their choice. Inner city students often are the first generation to finish high school in their family, let along college. They often lack someone to help them prepare essays and applications, but you can help them, you can put the books in their hands that will help.
