My Students

Have you ever wondered how students in other countries learn to read? Well, I have and so have my students.

Each year our class is composed of 22-24 of the most diverse students you could ever imagine.

The problem is that some students come to 1st grade with an enormous amount of information about the world that they have already received through travel with families or from reading books. However, in the same classroom, there are students that have never traveled outside of their home town nor ever read a book about life in other countries.

My Project

Having the new iPad in our classroom would give my students the opportunity to skype with first grade students from all over the world. We could use the camera to enter into their first grade classrooms without ever leaving our building. We could demonstrate how to complete math problems, read a book, spell words or even work on experiments with students from various countries. By skyping, my students will learn to accept the differences of others while learning about diversity.

This may be the only chance that some of my students will ever have to enter into a foreign classroom.
