My Students

The students in my class are just learning to read! Being in a multi-grade class we have students of varying abilities. A listening center with a variety of books and materials will allow students to listen to ability appropriate materials to gain reading fluency and comprehension.

I teach a class with 11 kindergartners and 7 1st graders in Alaska.

I have varying levels of academic ability in all subject areas. There are students in Title 1 services, English Language Learners and Special Education services. My school is K-6 and is a very close, supportive community. My students and I are ready to read!

My Project

One thing our classroom is lacking is a listening station. A key component to early literacy is hearing books of various levels read. Listening stations help students develop fluency, comprehension strategies, vocabulary and decoding skills. With the purchase of a listening center and headphones will give students the opportunity to listen to their favorite, stories on a daily basis and help them develop those vital reading skills. Ultimately, they will see themselves as life-long readers!

My students will greatly benefit from a learning station, they are eager and ready to read, and this project will provide them with the materials help them be successful.

My students come from a close-knit supportive community, and this project will not just benefit my 18 students, but our entire school community!
