Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Autism spectrum disorder effects one in every eighty eight children. All the students in my class have ASD and they want to learn. The iPad 2 has a number of apps that are geared at students with autism and may help them learn to communicate better.
My students are in kindergarten through second grade and have autism spectrum disorder.
They work hard and have caring parents and a supportive school. However, we are in a low income school and we don't have access to an iPad for classroom instruction. The specific applications made for students with autism would really help these kids learn to communicate and learn to use technology. I don't want them to be left behind because of their socioeconomic status.
These kids love technology, when they are able to go to the computer lab, but there is no technology in our classroom for the students to use. This leaves them behind their peers who live in more affluent areas and I want them to have every advantage.
My Project
With an iPad 2 in the classroom, students will use applications geared toward their educational label; they will learn to use technology, learn to communicate more effectively and have a window to the world. We will be able to use complex instructional techniques like video modeling, but the students will also be able to show off what they've learned. We don't have a computer for students in our room, but with your help, they can access technology on the iPad.
My students are already different from their peers.
Giving them the advantage of experience with technology will open doors for them well into the future. Applications will help them communicate better, knowing how to use technology will help them relate to their peers and may help them find future employment. Your donation will help kids from a low income school have a chance at the best education possible.
