My students need iPads in order to experience a BYOD classroom. My students are hungry, not only for the food in the cafeteria, but also for the lessons learned through the use of technology! Remember what it was like when all you had were worksheets and textbooks to learn from?
In today's world, children are wired to use technology in a way to enhance learning.
Engagement is KEY! As we all say, "It's A Great Day to Be at B.!" B. is a school that consists of about 500 students in grades K-5. These students are smart, eager, and goal oriented, who love challenges. We are a technology magnet school that has many standards to accomplish in order for our students to be introduced and proficient in using up-to-date technology.
Many of our students are labeled gifted students and do not learn effectively using only textbooks. Our students are interested and eager to learn from technology available to the classroom. They are excited and engaged when they can learn from a form of technology versus a textbook. This is why I am asking for five iPad mini devices to help enhance my teaching and student learning. They can use them to review, research, and create TONS of technology projects focused on content taught in class. The world of educational apps is endless.
My Project
Imagine writing a paper and recording yourself reading it and displaying it for others through a QR code. All the reader would have to do is scan the QR code using their QR scanner and would have access to your story while hearing you reading it all at once. Can you imagine the engagement the students would have in wanting to complete a writing piece knowing they would be able to use a form of technology to accomplish the above description?
After a lot of research, the ideas of how to use iPads are unbelievable. Just to name a few: *QR Codes (Games, lessons, activities) *Literature Circles *Apps to facilitate learning and practicing content taught in class *Turn reviewing content taught into a game form when students will use the iPads to "buzz" in. *Math practice through apps by engaging and using the above ideas
My students will not only be excited and engaged but the level of rigor will increase which is the goal of any educator.
In a world that is technologically advanced, my students need the opportunity to incorporate any piece of technology into their learning.
They must learn how to communicate their findings and provide evidence in return. With the use of technology in the classroom, my students will soar academically!
