iPad to the Rescue: Implementing the Use of Technology

My Students

Have a hand at helping technical high school students receive a piece of technology for class use in their amazing English class!

My students are Connecticut High School Students.

Our students simultaneously receive a technical and academic education. While students tend to enjoy their selected trade education, academics is a bit of a tougher sell. If I can get my hands on a classroom iPad, my students can get their technically inclined hands on it and put it to use! That's how my students learn best: when they're physically doing something. An iPad can greatly help my students' learning.

My Project

As you're likely familiar, Apple iPad's have the ability to download apps. Some of the apps we can use as a class are PowerSchool (to check their own grades), Safari (for quick Internet research), Kindle (for independent reading), Socrative (for live informal assessment), dictionary (for quick access to a dictionary), Prezi (for viewing or creating interactive presentations), just to name a few! In addition to gaining access to those apps and programs right in our classroom, we can also use the iPad for taking independent required Accelerated Reading quizzes. Instead of me interrupting class time to call the library to gain permission for a student to quiz on a computer, and writing a pass, student packing backpack, and saying good bye to friends... I can instead just hand the student the iPad. The student stays in class and I am able to help monitor the quiz while being available to all the other students in the class. With an iPad, we will get more class time together

Although I am only asking for ONE iPad for a whole class to use, one iPad can still change our whole class learning dynamic.

My students will have access to 21st century learning centers to enable them the confidence to continue on into our growing world of technology. An iPad will help make these students learners of English and learners of life. Help me with helping prepare the future (students) for the future.
