Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students face a number of challenges. Many of them come from homes with limited resources. Unfortunately due to funding our school is also unable to provide them with up to date technology. For example in my classroom I have one semi-working computer (it does not have a cd drive).

I am blessed to work with an amazing group of talented first graders.

I am a dual language Spanish teacher and have a total of 51 students. Many of them struggle to read and lack many social skills. A large majority of my students come from homes where English is not spoken. They lack vocabulary and have limited life experiences. The school that they attended is a Title 1 school all students receive free lunch. The school they attended also lacks up to date technology.

My Project

By having an iPad in our classroom students will be able to listen to stories online to improve their literacy skills. There are also many applications in Spanish that apple offers to support students that are learning Spanish. They will also be able to use our schools educational websites to support them in math (First in Math).

This project will significantly impact my students.

It will inspire my students to want become better readers and get them excited about reading. They will be more motivated to read and practice basic phonics skills. In turn they will be able to improve drastically. They will also be given the opportunity to be exposed to current technology.
