My Students

Technology, for students with disabilities, helps to level the playing field. A lesson shown on the projector, and then printed in color makes a huge impact and a big difference in acquiring knowledge!

My students are chronologically 10 - 14 years of age.

But, because of their varying abilities, cognitively and emotionally they are between the ages of 1-6 years. These students are active, eager learners and they attend a moderate-severe special day class in Northern California.

My Project

Technology is interesting, engaging, and relevant in the lives of my students. They are drawn to computers, iPads, and other devices that provide similar experiences. The traditional way to learn via pencil and paper is arduous, uninteresting, and not very motivating. I have seen academic gains in these students by presenting educational material differently. If we had colored ink we could print out projects and power point presentations, we could type out stories and use a drawing program to illustrate our work. A way to broadcast what we see on the iPad onto a projector could mean a whole new way of learning, and participating as a group. My students will learn how to work cooperatively in a group, how to participate in group lessons using the iPad as an academic tool, and how to show what they have learned by generating work on the computer and using the printing supplies to make hard copies of their work.

By supporting this project you will help the many students in this class who have a difficult time showing what they have learned via pencil and paper.

You will have provided a way for the students to learn in a non traditional manner. You will have given these students the opportunity to master an advanced way to demonstrate their knowledge. Our students could potentially be the teachers with access to this technology.
