Interactive Notebooks For Geometry

My students need markers, scissors, tape, staples, highlighters, notecards, crayons, and more to create interactive notebooks and other hands on manipulatives in class.

My Students

Let's make math class as fun as art class. In order for this to happen we need hands on supplies to use for interactive notebooks and other manipulative's. The students won't even know they are doing math.

Our students attend a public urban high school in Oklahoma.

We have a diverse student body with about 60% Hispanic, 15% African American, 15% Caucasian, and 10% others with a high percent qualifying for free lunch. What amazes me about our students is that many of our students face other challenges outside of the classroom and yet they still manage to accomplish so much without the support we take for granted.

My Project

I plan to use interactive notebooks each week in my geometry classes. This will require scissors for cutting templates, markers, crayons, colored pencils, and highlighters for shading regions for reference, as well as pencils to write with (my students often come to class without this useful tool). In addition we will be making notecard games that students will write on with a sharpie and try to find their match. Many of the supplies will also double as resources to create our own manipulatives like tangrams, quadrilaterals, and tessellations. We will also you nearly every resource listed on our Tin Can Lab. There are many more uses for these much needed supplies.

Without these resources so many essential activities will not be possible this year as we don't have any budget for supplies.

With the items requested student engagement and achievement will greatly increase and have a huge impact at our school
