My students need two iPads that they can share during art class. They also need a designated printer with ink and paper to print their digital projects, along with screen protectors and three protective cases for the iPads.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students love to create art with iPads. They beg me to use the few we have whenever they can. Unfortunately, I do not have enough for each of them to use or enough so that even two can share. With the addition of two more this can be accomplished and there would be one iPad for every two students
My school is a high poverty school and has a large enrollment.
My students love technology and with the purchase of some iPads last year they were able to translate this love into their art work. They are enthusiastic and creative and I am fortunate to witness this every day.
My Project
The iPads have many apps which allow students to make art. The Standards of Learning for Art in my state incorporate technology. I had not been able to accomplish this due to a lack of resources for the arts. With iPads my students can visit museums, use photography, paint, draw, sculpt, and even do ceramics. iPads will open a world of new possibilities for them and give them digital skills that they can carry with them in the future. A printer will give me the ability to print their projects.
The use of iPads has and will continue to open new worlds for my students.
They are able to see and do things which were not possible before. My students who lacked confidence when creating, blossomed because of the "forgiving" nature that the iPads allow. I am able to teach and expose my student to more of what the Arts have to offer.
