Help us FOCUS! My students are not able to focus and work independently with distractions. Having these sound dividers will help make our classroom more conducive to their learning.
I have 18 special education high school students (grades 9-12) throughout the day.
The school they attend is a low income, Title I school. There are non-readers up to the mid 3rd grade reading level. In Literacy, they work in small groups primarily on fluency, comprehension, writing and vocabulary. They are more successful when working in smaller groups free from distractions at their specific reading level. The sound absorbent dividers would help each and every one of my students while working on building their reading levels. In math, they work continuously on counting coins and giving back change. The skills they are taught are real life and applicable to real life scenarios. The students in my classes are taught throughout the day together. Having these sound absorbent dividers will also help give them their "alone time".
My Project
We are asking for two sound absorbent dividers that will enable our classroom to have two learning stations. The students will be able to use this space to work independently, work with a classmate, or work one on one with a teacher. This space will also be an area for students to have "alone time" because they spend a majority of the day with one another (6 out of 8 periods). There are times when they just need a break from one another, and then to collect their thoughts free from distractions. The dividers will enable them to have this personal space. The dividers will also enable to students to work at their own pace when working on independent work or when working in small groups. The dividers will also be used for learning centers that are built into class lessons.
Special needs students like the ones in my classroom are particularly vulnerable to disruptive behavior or any kind of disruption.
This is why these dividers could be so valuable. These dividers will allow me to make learning centers, opportunities for independent growth and spaces where kids can go to work alone.
