My students need accessories, including a stylus and an adapter, to be able to view an iPad on the classroom projector during our physics experiments using their iPods.

My Students

Technology isn't useful if you don't know how to use it. My students have iPods they can use to acquire video of classroom experiments, but we need a way to display an iPad/iPod screen to the class projector so the students can follow along on their own screen.

We have a diverse set of students who attend public school in Indiana.

A significant portion of our students come from lower income families, but we also have active parents (many from a nearby university) that help support and encourage our science department. The students are hard-working and many end up taking multiple advance science classes before they graduate.

My Project

These resources focus on leveraging recent grants provided to my classroom. We were able to acquire a class set of iPods which we use to take video footage of Physics experiments. That footage can then be analyzed frame by frame using apps on the iPods that will determine objects' motion. This equipment includes adapter cables that allow me as a teacher to directly connect an iPod or iPad to our classroom projector. This makes training the students on how to use the iPod software much more reliable and efficient. The requested adapters/connectors will leverage the already existing technology in our classroom to make it easier to use and more effective as a learning tool. Students will be able to experience and accurately measure first-hand experiments based upon projectile motion, momentum, and energy transfer.

This project takes innovative learning methods - using iPods in the classroom to record experimental data - and makes them even easier to use through the use of adapters so that the entire class can easily follow along.

This results in a shorter time to master the laboratory program, and more time spent actually performing lab activities. More hands-on experiences will result in better, and deeper understanding of the concepts being studied.
