"If I had a million dollars, well I'd buy you a house." No, no...we don't need a house, we need money materials. Our students need to be able to recognize each coin and be prepared to pay a cashier with something other than a credit card. We are going to do an excel"CENT" job counting money in PE.
In a regular day, I will work with 150 to 175 students ranging from kindergarten to fifth grade.
As the physical education specialist, I not only teach my students about personal fitness and skill themes, I also incorporate health and nutrition lessons, as well as cross-curricular lessons to help our awesome math and reading teachers. To be able to catch the eye of kids from 5 years old to 12 years old - I need as much help as I can!
My Project
My students need books about money and play money to practice coin recognition and value. My primary students will work primarily on coin recognition and value by playing games that will have them being active and matching coins to their name and value. My older students will use the plastic money to practice making purchases and giving change. I like to read to my students if I have a book that pertains to our lesson. The books in this project will be a wonderful "Financial Literacy" addition. They will be able to experience how money works in the real world by listening to the stories of different characters. Our students really benefit from learning about different lifestyles and environments.
The plastic at our school is used in the classroom and is not always available for encore teachers.
This project will provide great materials for our money unit.
This project will make a life long difference in my students. These are skills that they will use as they get their first jobs, go to college, or start a family.
