This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

In order to stay current, my students need current biographies!

My students live in a community where school comes second; trying to feed their family comes first.

Many of my students do not have the luxury of going to the public library. Because many of my students' parents work two or more jobs, my students need the school library to supply them with the books necessary to complete assignments. Having the books in our library is crucial in completing class assignments.

My Project

With the move to Common Core, teachers are increasingly assigning students to read biographies. The problem is that most of the biographies in our collection were purchased 10-15 years ago, so we don't have bios of the people of most interest to students. This project would allow the purchase of more current biographies, at different reading levels, it would help students to learn to read and learn to love reading.

With your support, my students' library will have the current biography books that will appeal to them and meet the requirements assigned in class.
