My Students

My students learn the best when I know the best teaching practices and strategies.

This is my third year teaching first grade.

I worked as a long-term kindergarten teacher before that. I work with first graders in an inner city, high poverty school district in Ohio. Our school is an early literacy school. I am always researching the best teaching strategies.

My Project

This conference provides me with the opportunity to learn from top-quality early childhood experts and classroom practitioners who stay abreast of cutting-edge research, new challenges, important issues, and developing trends, and who are genuinely committed to improving the teaching and learning in our classrooms. I expect to learn practical and effective strategies for teaching first graders by addressing issues that are important right now—like classroom technology and how to harness it most effectively, or how to align my practice with the standards, while giving our students the tools they need to succeed. In addition, I will build on my professional network by meeting, exchanging ideas, and creating meaningful connections with educators I can connect with long after the conference. While I am at the conference I will need to stay in the hotel room for four nights. I will also need breakfast, lunch, and dinner for four days.

This project creates both opportunities for my school/district to invest in our students’ academic growth and success, and also for me to meet my professional development goals.

This training will help me learn the best practices and my students will get the best learning strategies.
