Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Many of my students have lost part or all of their homes due to the storm surge of Hurricane Sandy. These books on floods, hurricanes and natural disasters will help them understand the science behind the storm as we rebuild.
Our Middle School is a diverse high-need school comprised of over 1,000 students in grades 6 to 8.
Every child has been adversely effected by Hurricane Sandy. As I type this request school has been canceled for a week, many families do not have heat or power; some do not have homes.
My Project
I selected books about floods, hurricanes and natural disasters to show the children that these phenomena happen around the globe and throughout time. I want them to see how events such as this shapes a community and changes your lifestyle. I need my students to see how other communities rebuild and come back even after the unthinkable.
We as a community are devastated, but we will rebuild.
