How Much Time is Left?

My students need individual timers to help them understand the concept of time passing and to know when their turn is up when sharing computer time.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students love to use technology but have a difficult time understanding when their turn is up. The individual timers will help them see time passing in a very concrete way and will help them know that their turn is up so that another student can have a turn.

My students are first and second graders with autism.

We are a California public school in a lower socio-economic neighborhood. My students are at various levels both academically and verbally. These visual timers will help their individual sense of time as well as helping their fellow students know how much longer they have to wait for their turn.

My Project

Right now my classroom has one big visual timer which the students look at for whole class activities and how much time they have for breaks until the next activity. The individual timers will allow me to teach each student how to judge their activities according to time passing.

The individual timers will allow my students to have some independence in their use of computers because they will not need a teacher to tell them when their time is up.

The timers will also allow for more student interaction since one student can see his or her timer and show it to a waiting peer.
