My Students

Did you know that one in four children grow up not knowing how to read? Or that students with lower math abilities are more likely to drop out of high school? Students with a firm foundation in both reading and math have a better chance in graduating high school, college, and starting a career.

My students are eager learners that come from various backgrounds.

Some have strong parental support, while others have no educational support at home. Fifty percent of the students in my classroom are repeating first grade. It is essential that I give them the necessary materials and rigorous activities needed for them to obtain a strong foundation in reading and math. My expectations for my students are high because I want them to learn to strive for success. I teach my students to never give up and to never strive for just the minimum requirement. I want my students to reach higher and further with each activity or lesson.

My Project

The Hot Dots system is a self-checking phonics and math system. Students can interact with a Hot Dots pen that will automatically confirm a correct or incorrect answer. My students will greatly benefit from this system because it is a rigorous way for them to practice phonics and math and receive immediate feedback. If a student does not answer correctly, the Hot Dots Pen will inform the student of the correct answer. With the Hot Dots system, students can quickly review necessary skills to aide them in reading and math.

You can make an impact in the lives of students who otherwise may not have an opportunity to interactively engage with reading and math.

Students who may never get the chance to play educational games at home, will now have the opportunity to practice phonics and math skills at school. Thank you for considering this project and helping first grade students build a firm foundation that will carry through high school, college, and the rest of their lives.
