Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Hola! Hasta la vista baby! Do you remember your learning a foreign language in school? My students get to learn math, science, reading and writing, all while learning Spanish! What a fun, and exciting challenge! But many of them don't have the resources to help them practice at home.

My students are a bunch of brave wonderful 2nd graders that motivate and inspire me to come to work ready to teach every day!

I am a Spanish teacher in an inner city, low income, Title 1 affiliated charter school. Here I have met some of the most enthusiastic kids who come ready to learn with a positive attitude, even when the challenges of learning about the world in a second language may feel grand. Many of my little ones face a variety of hardships at home, and school has become a positive place to be where they can grow, learn, and achieve success in two languages! Yet, many of my students are alone within their families in learning a second language. I am so proud of them and their brave perseverance! I want my classroom to be a safe place where they can grow as learners, but I also want to provide opportunities for them to share with their families what they are learning, while providing tools that can be used to have fun, quality time with their families.

My Project

The Take-Home learning packs, are a great set of backpacks for students to take home and share with their family. They are all filled with fun activities that reinforce basic skills—from nutrition & safety to shapes & counting, all while continuing to learn Spanish! The backpack organizer will help us have the Take-Home packs organized and accessible, and will be able to add more learning materials to the backpacks as we go! As part of the Dual Language program at our school, we strive to develop students who will be global bridge-builders among different cultures; and it all starts with learning in a second language. Nevertheless, being connected with their families is the main source of the power and strength they will need to be to be successful in all their endeavors.

By donating to our project, you will make a wonderful difference in the lives of many students and their families.

Many of my students' parents feel frustrated by not being able to support their little ones in the work that they are doing in my classroom. By donating to our project, you will be fostering the growth of my students as learners of Spanish. But what is more exciting, is that you will be providing tools for our families to spend fun, quality time while bonding over fun activities!
