This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Obesity among the youth of today is rampant. Teaching students fun ways to stay active is necessary to achieve the healthy lifestyles that help these kids thrive. Floor hockey has proved to be an activity that can include every student in a class.

Our students live in a predominantly under privileged neighborhood.

They would probably not be exposed to hockey and it's many benefits without their physical Education class. It is important to provide students with many different opportunities to achieve a healthy lifestyle after they have left Middle School.

My Project

Hockey is a wonderful sport that teaches hand eye coordination, cardiovascular fitness, and team sportsmanship. Players must work together to achieve their goals. This hockey unit cannot be taught without the proper equipment. (hockey sticks)Hockey lends itself nicely to the gym environment, but cannot be played without equipment.

It is imperative that we find something that will appeal to these kids outside of school.

By exposing them to many different activities, we are hoping to find something that will help keep them active as they are growing up and hopefully into adulthood.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
